Artist: Keelan Mak

New age pop with a twist emerging from Brisbane’s concrete jungle, Keelan Mak releases ‘SKB’.

Mak is one of Australia’s most exciting new indie electronic acts. With a penchant for smoky electronic grooves, Mak’s music is simultaneously melancholy yet undeniably uplifting. Keelan’s vibe is old school juxtaposed with fresh sounds, he embodies this as an artist with his vintage vibe fashion and progressive indie-electronic music. The 19-year-old producer released his debut singles ‘Control’ and ‘Anymore’ last year and both were spiked the interest of Triple J Unearthed, quickly earning him a reputation for his unique blend of velvety vocals, intricate synthesiser pads and brooding guitar melodies. Over the last year Mak has broken the boundaries of his production; changing the way he uses his sounds to communicate. Far from his sultry rock ballad ‘Control’, his sounds have now formed into sophisticated electronic anthems. This release is a refresher to his past releases, having spent the last 12 months fine-tuning his craft and sound. ‘SKB’ draws inspiration from PLGRMS, Lanks, Matt Corby, Troye Sivan and Jarryd James; Mak’s music pushes and pulls you through a valley of electronica. Mak writes most of his songs about relationships, and the raw, real nature of them. “I wrote this song about sleeping with my ex”, tells Mak. “But it’s become about multiple things, drawing from different experiences and scenarios throughout life; falling in and out of other people’s worlds and making mistakes” “Doing things and thinking after, ‘I should have known better’. Locked inside the isolation of an inner-city Motel Room on the Gold Coast with bars on the windows, having just moved to the Gold Coast and feeling completely isolated and alone, Mak wrote SKB. “This song for me is the embodiment of high-school”, tells Mak. While this song draws on specific experiences in Mak’s life, he explains “it will always be relevant, because I’m always fucking up”. Keelan Mak releases his debut single "SKB" Friday 7 July 2017. Official music video is coming soon. It is set to be a huge year for Keelan Mak, so stay tuned for more from this impressive young artist.
